Not sure if you have seen this, but the medical industry is finally catching onto Emodin as a powerful substance. Not sure what to think about them using it to relieve the symptoms of ASD though. That seems unusual.

Thanks.
This is good news for autism patients and very, very bad news for emodin as a supplement. As the article itself says, the company plans to sell emodin as a prescription product and the only way this can happen is if FDA declares it a "novel drug"...which it can and likely will do considering what it did in the past with the natural vitamin B6 analog pyridoxamine.
"...PoloMar Health will sponsor the study while the BRAIN Foundation will provide funding. Based on the outcome of the study, PaxMedica may sell the pharmaceutical product emodin basis the prescription following guidance provided by the FDA and other regulatory authorities. PaxMedica CEO Howard Weisman said: “This valuable collaboration with PoloMar Health and the BRAIN Foundation is expected to enable PaxMedica to cost-effectively advance an existing asset in our pre-clinical pipeline, while maintaining our unwavering focus and commitment to the development and future approval of our primary clinical pipeline product, PAX-101. “Moreover, as a selective P2X7 purine receptor inhibitor, emodin will extend our overall knowledge of these types of agents in the treatment of the core symptoms of autism.” PoloMar Health can develop and commercialise any non-prescription supplement form of the product, as per the agreement. Emodin is a naturally occurring orally bioavailable selective P2X7 inhibitor and is sold as an over-the-counter nutritional supplement. It showed positive results in various measures of memory, behaviour, and cognition in a mouse model of autism, as well as in various vivo animal studies."

Interestingly, the vitamin B6 family, and especially pyridoxal-5-phosphate (P5P) / pyridoxamine (the one FDA banned) are also potent P2X7 antagonists.

So, they may also be able to help for autism. If that turns out to be the case, it probably won't be long before FDA bans P5P as well, and we are left with only the cheap and weakly effective precursors such as pyridoxine Hcl.

So true. It’s incredibly worrying when pharma gets hold of the useful stuff that actually works. Follow their progress Georgi and get a 20kg drum before it becomes next to impossible to source.

Bummer - fortunately the supplement industry has grown exponentially since the pyridoxamine ban.

Now a multi-billion dollar industry with lobbyists on Capitol Hill - no guarantee.

They may ban pure emodin but allow cascara/aloe/etc to stay on market with labelling restrictions.

Reading article company using "highly biovaliable" form of emodin.

Patent may focus on delivery platform or structurally altered emodin. Similar to what Ray said where drug companies patent everything around the bioactive component but not substance itself.

Hopefully you're right John. It's already hard enough to source Emodin and it has been proven insanely useful for me. It seems like we have one of the only sources of it here along with another one that has been out of stock for a long time. I have also seen More Plates more Dates guy sell it in the past but it looks like it's discontinued now. I wonder if they are being pushed out of it by pharmaceutical companies that are interested in the compound and trying to corner the market.

What benefits have you had? I may try some out some Lapodin on next Idealabs round.

There's a chance Plates people weren't making money off it. I don't think emodin has much traction out side of Peat or Peat-adjacent.

Could be wrong but feels pretty niche for something with such beneficial scope.

Georgi mentioned in a recent podcast that Lapodin is an underutilized product that more people could benefit from.

I found it very beneficial for sleep and cortisol reduction. I feel it works on that very strongly. My metrics according to my Oura Ring have increased quite a bit since I've started using it regularly before bed. I also tried cypro, but I find with that, I don't like that it has a more wide range of effects. I feel that emodin is much more targeted.

Thanks - I tried out some Now cascara but it really nuked ( lowered ) my cortisol and disrupted sleep. Felt like a zombie on it.

I'd still try Lapodin at a low dose/background level perhaps topical to see if any benefit. Feel likes it's an important thing with systemic benefits.

Are you doing oral or topical?

Topical, it makes you look all bruised though due to the coloring, so keep that in mind! I take a good 25 drops before bed which is a full dose according to the bottle.

Gonna try this, never used this topically. Does it improve your sleep when applying the 25 drops just before you sleep? Have you also tried orally to compare the difference between the two routes? Thanks!

I haven't tried orally, only topically. My sleep seems to be improved most of the time after taking it. It doesn't knock you out like cypro though, I found cypro very sedating and has a strong knockout effect. But I find that lapodin is mildly relaxing and seems to help with getting a good sleep. I also find myself to be maybe a bit more subjectively relaxed on a day to day basis.

I could have issues with cortisol though, not sure. I started to suspect as much. But I wouldn't say it's environmentally induced, I don't find my life to be particularly stressful.

Just water and soap will do it! Maybe just water if you're persistent but soap definitely does the trick. The good news is the stains don't seem to stick on clothes either, putting them in the washing machine seemed to work fine. But don't take my word on it! I would avoid getting it on any fabrics just incase.

did you try making a tea from the capsule powder, I believe I have read people prefer it this way.

No just took it orally - may try the tea route but it definitely had a very strong sedating effect next day regardless of dose one pill, two pill, even a half 450 mg pill. So I've held off on it.

Was mostly trying it for gut related issues - to speed things up.
