Hi All

My friend (28, female) woke up with face dead on one side, and has been diagnosed with Bell's palsy, not a stroke.

Any suggestions?

I assume the doc would recommend progesterone, aspiring, DHEA etc?

Thanks

If you get Dr. Peat's newsletter in March of this year he wrote on the topic of protecting and restoring nerves. That's probably a good place to start. If you don't have it I can try to read back through it and see what's suggested.

Here is a list from the last paragraph: progesterone, aspirin, niacinamide, sugar, thyroid, pregnenolone, vitamins D, E and K, stress reduction, regular exposure to bright light and avoiding hypothermia.

Bells Palsy can be related to sinus infection/inflammation so antibiotic treatment that can get into the sinuses might be in order.

Bell's palsy is taken to be a process involving the facial nerve.

Some of the facial nerve is deep to the surface. However, other parts are closer to the surface. Using some of the restorative substances near the pathway of the facial nerve that is close to the surface(such as red light, topical progesterone, topical pregnenolone, topical vitamin E, D or K mentioned above) may help either the presumably inflamed area of nerve or deep elsewhere in the nerve through "retrograde" transport.

"Of course", it is always best to understand the local difficult in the context of the person's entire metabolic situation, and to get the clearest medical diagnosis when going that route.

"Bell's palsy is a diagnosis of exclusion, meaning it is diagnosed by elimination of other reasonable possibilities. By definition, no specific cause can be determined. There are no routine lab or imaging tests required to make the diagnosis.[4] The degree of nerve damage can be assessed using the House-Brackmann score.
One study found that 45% of patients are not referred to a specialist, which suggests that Bell’s palsy is considered by physicians to be a straightforward diagnosis that is easy to manage.[5]"
...
"Prognosis: Most people with Bell's palsy start to regain normal facial function within 3 weeks—even those who do not receive treatment.[25]"

Hey everyone! My mother has been suffering with Bell's Palsy for around 60 days now, I'd like to know how the op's friend has recovered and if there is anything that she's done to help her, thanks!
