The unrefined has more flavour, and still has a bit of the proteins etc in it; the refined is usually refined, bleached, deodorised (RBD), so you can use it in any cooking or on skin etc without dominating flavour or smell.

Some people tend get allergic reactions to the unrefined oil, but few have trouble with the refined oil.

Because coconut oil has such a high proportion of saturated fats, the oil itself it is not much affected by heat processing, unlike unsaturated seed oils, which are significantly damaged by heat processing.

Where I am, refined is also half the price of unrefined.

I use lots of the refined oil, but also sometimes like the unrefined oil for the extra flavour, depending on what I'm using it for.

It's just filtered, usually through diatomaceous earth, to remove materials other than the fat; the main problem with the unfiltered oil is that it's allergenic for many people. It also degrades quicker.

If they are labelled cold pressed or virgin, I'm guessing they are unrefined.
