Without having read this, the first problem that jumps out is they seed values from the Uganda outbreak - this guy says the current outbreak is something new (20m 17s in). That's always the problems with models like this, they really don't mean squat because they simply can't capture enough variables.

It is interesting when a public health academic makes a speech saying
we don't know anything about this outbreak
and we don't know how to handle it.

That does mark a different approach!
