Another important thing I heard in the interview was a question about the warming effect of a pancake versus drinking OJ. I think he mentioned the warming effect of starch was due to increased cortisol. I guess Matt Stone need to be more careful :)

On a more serious note, Dr John McDougall has had a fair amount of success treating people using a High Starch Low Fat diet- some of whom I know. They claim being a 'starchavore' and using no oils has helped various medical conditions. So I guess the mystery of the perfect diet will continue.

I have the audio file uploaded to the server. However, I have not converted it yet to an mp3 format because for some reason the converter isn't working. So in the meantime you can follow the instructions on how to listen to it below in which you will need to download VLC player, or wait for the mp3 version to be made.

Ok, you can download the show file from here:

http://largefiles.raypeatforum.com/audi ... 20-2013.ps

You will need VLC Player to play it which you can download the player from here:

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Then just install the player, then open up the show file above with the player.

In the meantime I will be working on getting an easier version for everyone. Sorry for the delay but I am pretty exhausted at this point and need to take a break. Hopefully the radio station will post their version soon.

I was a young kid, maybe 8 years old, and very sick. The doctor pulled my parents aside and told them to go get me some marijuana. :smokingjoint

I would agree. McDougal's own research into the "high starch" diets (as admitted by himself) are based on studies of people who consumed potatoes doused in butter and salt.

The study had good results with the admittedly small sample size; McDougal himself (sans butter and salt of course), not so much. Once again, saturated fat walks away the winning of a fight nobody even knew was taking place.

Thanks Charlie!

Btw, no need to download VLC. Just change the extension .ps to .mp3 and use your favorite player.

A smaller version would be nice though :)

Flaviom, welcome to the forum! :welcome

Thanks for letting me know about the extension deal. Didn't even think of that, duh! :doh

Today I will make a smaller version, but will also leave the big version up for people who want the higher quality sound.

Definately a reduction in PUFA's is a huge factor behind a lot of people's success on the McDougall diet, probably just a reduction of fat overall but mainly toxic fats (basically
he eliminates any potential contaminated animal fats or rancid vegetable fats).
I think there is something too though about the simpleness and humbleness to his diet which factors into its success...which is something I highly respect. It is an economically friendly, ecologically friendly, very affordable, non egotistical, just simple humble diet. You don't have to stress about having to have certain rare foods or supplements or anything and everything you eat is widely available world wide and very inexpensive...so its a very low stress diet. You'll probably look like him eating the diet, pretty thin and healthy but with not quite ideal pigmentation and a little gut...but still he has a pleasant demeanor and is healthier than probably 99% other diet promoters. (Ray Peat takes it to a whole other level...more ideal but possibly too complex for some people to understand and therefore be convinced to implement, or unaffordable)
