Rock-hard September apples and pears, a little tart, have always been favorites of mine. I know Peat recommends against them, but I figured this year I would have a small number and enjoy—and it would be an interesting experiment, too, to see what reaction I got, if any.

The result was gas a few hours after eating. Nothing painful, more annoying. My question is, is the gas a waste product of gut bacteria feeding off the fruit, or is it the breakdown of the fruit?

This morning I also had joint pain in my knuckles, hips, and a bit in the knees. Could that have been a result of the apple and pear? If yes, how would that inflammation happen?

All in all, I think I'm going to skip these things in the future. Not worth it.

RP recommends cooked apple. Unripe apple and pears both are high in starch
which feeds bad bacteria. I believe the fiber content or quality is changed in
ripe fruits. I know apple and pears are high in pectin, which feeds bad bacteria and
that increases endotoxin load in the liver. This results in high cortisol,
estrogen and over all low thyroid function. Gut irritation from pectin can increase
serotonin ,which RP believes can cause joint pain. I react badly to
pectin in unripe apple and ripe apple cause less problems.
I have noticed taking some coconut oil with ripe apple helps.

Commercial apple juice is pectin free
and it is a big factor. Adding some baking soda can neutralize the acid
and make it safer for intestine.

What brands would you recommend? I've seen people recommend against it specifically for its pectin content in addition to mold contamination because old apples are used.

Yes ,RP has warned about fungul residue from spoiled apple. I have tried
about 15 different brands found two not causing any extra
problem. These are mostly local brands and not found in other countries.
I think sunmountain used an organic concentrated apple brand named
Cascadian Farm. For me benefit of Apple Juice outweighs the possible
problem from fungul content.

Pectin is removed in commercial apple juice that is why they looks so
clear unlike home made apple juice. One can use Pectinase enzyme to
remove pectin from home made apple juice but one needs ripe apple,
not the partially ripened apple found in stores. RP recommend avoiding
pectin, as it feeds bad bacteria and increases endotoxin and serotonin production.

If I recall, it appears Peat recommends cooking all foods before eating them. Now, I never eat any raw fruits, and even cook bananas in butter. Surprisingly, it takes pretty good. Does cooking apples destroy or reduce the pectin content to make it safe to eat?

RP recommends cooking under ripe apple because of it's high starch content.
In Ayurveda it is believed that all cooked fruits are easier to digest.
Fully ripened fruits are almost pre-digested.
I think cooking makes sugar in the fruit more available for digestion.
It possibly inactivates other problematic compounds. I read about
fuit ripening process a long time ago. IIRC ripening softens the fruit
but it still contains pectin in different length.
Cooking is lot like ripening but i think it does not destroy pectin.
Reaction to pectin depends largely on gut bacteria composition.
A person with good bacterial composition would not have much problem
with pectin. But most hypothyroid people have bad bacterial composition
mainly due to low digestive power and slow peristalsis.

Cooking banana breaks down starch but i think other soluble fiber
content does not change. Banana and plantain are high in serotonin
and that is main reason for avoiding banana. I have noticed
i have less digestive problem from boiled plantain than cooked
ripe banana.

Moderators: I think it would be good idea to create a separate thread
on this Apple questions. I do not want to derail this from original purpose.

I have lots of apples to eat at the moment!
Some fall even before ripening.
I abused of my 1st compote, and ejected all very fast, at least I am clean inside now! Trasit normal after ejection.
Right now I have eaten beef steak with raw apples, together. I will comment... Boudin aux pommes is a common french dish, so may be the acidity mixes very well with animal products.

RP recommends cooked apple.

If pectin is bad, if there is still a problem with cooked apples, then the only benefit of cooking the starch would not be enough for RP to recommend cooked apples, what do you think?
I guess cooking transforms pectine, as cooking transforms many things.
I cannot eat a raw ripe orange, I can juice it and cook the pulp.

Just found this about pectin, in a product aimed at curing liver.
It means that it helps to regenerate a degenerated liver and normalize metabolism, leading to more energy, plus reduce cholesterol...

"Pectina. Contribuye a la regeneración y recuperación del hígado en caso de procesos lesivos o degenerativos agudos y/o crónicos, normaliza el metabolismo, reduce el colesterol y aumenta la energía."

Maybe pectin is a problem onl when you had some gut problem?
"The problem is not the pectin, it is YOU!" and me...

As he said reaction to pectin depends on the composition of gut bacteria and it is a problem for people that have some kind of SIBO. But even in good situation in liter of juice or more over time amount of pectin can irritate the intestines and cause serotonin symptoms.

Cooking the apples and other pectin rich fruits probably makes it easier on the gut in such situations.

.But still clarified juice have very good taste and its totally safe and it is not that time consuming at all to prepare

It is like classical commercial apple juice...nothing speciall but easy to do at home....why not use it at home if some juice is causing u an issue

and it is important for those people since it is only way to get vit C in the diet without compromising gut health even further

That is why I made a thread about pectin free juice since I noticed that lot of people are not doing well with lots of juice and problem besides unripeness is in pectin. Esspecially in liter or more of juice.

The Ultimate Crystal-Clear Pectin Free OJ And Fruit Juices

.Tropical fruits and melons when ripe contains very little pectin.
