Energy is most definitely a fundamental aspect of physiology. And Asian mythological nonsense is the result of thousands of years of subjective observation. Such ideas should be respected. Sperm takes a considerable amount of energy to make (as every process in your body takes energy) and is nutrient dense. Seeing such processes as merely the result of signaling is highly flawed. The purpose of such signaling (via prolactin and what not) is to allow your body to recover and to keep you from ejaculating more than your body can handle. Western science is obsessed with signaling but often ignores the raw materials and energy processes take to complete. That way of thinking is just a culture, nothing else. No, it is not true. There is no "energy" to be released back, unless you are speaking purely metaphorically. It's Asian mythological nonsense.
Once you orgasm a set of chemical changes occur, so whether you release your sperm does not really matter as you will still experience fatigue and all the other side-effects.
In fact, just touching your penis and watching porn without ejaculation can cause mild side-effects in regards to these same chemical changes.
What IS true is that "edging" for long enough prior to ejaculation can lead to entirely different effects compared to masturbating and releasing immediately.
Edging enhances orgasm and produces some pleasant effects (still a bunch of negative ones though).
