1. There are some claims that Cimetidine (H2 Antagonist) grows hair. It's attributed to anti-androgenic activity but see what haidut shared.
(Just like Famotidine and Ranitidine) Cimetidine shows anti-oxidant activity. It also scavenges nitric oxide. Maybe that anti-oxidant, anti-NO activity cause re-growth ?
2. And here a different study. Says that DHT (but not plain testosterone) promotes NO.
Nitric oxide in the human hair follicle
...This biomolecule is apparently formed by the endothelial isoform of nitric oxide synthase, which was detected at the mRNA and protein levels. Remarkably, basal NO level was enhanced threefold by stimulating dermal papilla cells with 5alpha-dihydrotestosterone (DHT) but not with testosterone. Addition of N-[3-(aminomethyl)benzyl]acetamidine (1400W), a highly selective inhibitor of inducible nitric oxide synthase, restrained the elevation in NO level induced by DHT. Analyses of DHT-stimulated cells at the mRNA and protein levels confirmed the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase. These findings suggest NO as a signaling molecule in human dermal papilla cells and implicate basal and androgen-mediated NO production to be involved in the regulation of hair follicle activity.
3. DHT also increases NO levels in the penis.
Dihydrotestosterone is the active androgen in the maintenance of nitric oxide-mediated penile erection in the rat.
4. And we all know that NO promotes aging, inflammation, Ray against it too.
It looks all confusing. What do you guys think ?
