Interesting historical study on "Comparison of Osteopathic and Allopathic Results in Dementia Praecox"* from 1933. Prior to WW2 there was still a vigorous debate on which was more important in disease treatment, fixing the structural or functional (metabolic) disorders.

The 2 forms of treatment were described as such:
- Allopathic practice is based on theories as to the cause of dementia. At the time dementia was thought to be due to a "chemical injury to the cortical cells" via process called "autointoxication" in connection with the sexual organs- this theory lead to the development of "glandular therapy" for dementia.
- Osteopathic treatment is of course based on the idea of physical causes which distort the autonomic nervous system and gradual impact function of circulatory and endocrine functions

As Ray Peat points out numerous times, the pharma/chemical industries have pretty much squashed thinking along these lines in last 50+ years. Sadly, true osteopaths and these "glandular" thinking allopaths are all dinosaurs. Hope others find this article of interest demonstrating pre-pharma industry medical thinking.
