Anybody know what good trustworthy info there is on things like Asperger's syndrome? I guess other than "just" serotonin what would the causes be?

I've been unusual by other people's standards since I was able to go to preschool, even though I remember I had a good friend in preschool and my mom said I was a very exploratory kid. When I went to kindergarten though I apparently hid under desks and in lockers (as opposed to being stuffed in them against my will :P ) and couldn't sit still, while the teacher was talking I would walk around and write on the chalkboard.Brian said:Just a personal observation: A lot of the symptoms of Asperger's are exactly what you would expect from someone who's entire first 5 years of life was glued to electronic screens rather than a more normal early childhood of being held and comforted a lot as infant and then exploratory play in nature and sports with peers and friendly people of other ages.
Why would an organism develop social skills and interests if positive social experiences are few and far between and digital media has been the constant pacifier?
I know serotonin might be the root cause but I'm curious why one would get autistic behavior with high serotonin whereas someone else won't? Is it timing? Like high serotonin too early in childhood? Something like oxygen deprivation or stress in the womb?answersfound said:Serotonin. High serotonin. Do a search on the forum.

Well, not knowing whether or not I've ever actually felt feelings of love or happiness, I feel the aftermath (grief) but I don't feel it while they're alive, shouldn't love be associated with a warm feeling and if so why don't I feel it? Maybe that's just the way I am now, I wish I could enter my mind and sort through my memories and watch them like a movie. I've always had a repetitive behavior going on like messing with the thing below your nose but inside your mouth right above your lip there's a bump there or something, and then squishing my earlobe and then grabbing my elbow, and mentally saying words over and over in my mind like "shoot, gosh dang it, crap" pretty much in that order. Probably some sorta response to holding in all the curse words I've probably wanted to say over the years.Brian said:Blinkyrocket said:I've been unusual by other people's standards since I was able to go to preschool, even though I remember I had a good friend in preschool and my mom said I was a very exploratory kid. Sounds like pretty normal behavior to me. Most kids aren't even close to socialized to scheduled activity when they enter kindergarten. What do you think is unusual about your social behavior?
Well, what do you mean by antennas? And "Individuals with Asperger syndrome tend to develop an intense interest in a particular subject." This I have, "Often they are able to remember enormous amounts of detail on their subject of interest. They may want to share this large amount of information with others and may resist diversion to other topics." And this, "They may also have difficulty tolerating sensory stimuli such as noise or lights." Does panicking when the fireworks go off count for noise? My sister also closes her ears when they shoot the fireworks on the fourth of july and shes got similiar anxiety problems to me and is also very skinny just like me.Giraffe said:http://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/condition/asperger-syndrome
This is a good description of aspergers.
You might consider aspergers if you feel you lack antennas which most other people have: Is it an intellectual effort to decipher the meaning of fascial expression rather than instinct? If you feel you have more antennas than average this could be a sign of HSP. The latter is usually associated with high cortisol.
I tried to find out more about aspergers a couple of years ago, but gave up at some point. I couldn't find any trustworthy information as to its causes.
PS: There isn't any trustworthy about HSP either.
No idea, I don't keep much track of it and I don't get constipated very much.Kasper said:They say that autism goes hand in hand with digestive problems, do you have that as well ?
I don't see how that's possible if I've been this way since I was practically a baby.uuy8778yyi said:I disagree modern technology and lack of socialising cause it,
because it was prevalent in the 1960s and 1970s too

I hate making eye contact, "Some of them may even display selective mutism, speaking not at all to most people and excessively to specific people. Some may choose only to talk to people they like." I used to not talk to anyone I didn't feel comfortable around, when I was in preschool, the teachers thought I couldn't speak at all for who knows how long until they heard me talk to my dad when he came to pick me up. I still don't like talking to many people but I force myself to do it.

I'm confused by there not being a comma, are you saying that you disagree with the statement that modern technology causes it?uuy8778yyi said:Blinkyrocket said:I don't see how that's possible if I've been this way since I was practically a baby.uuy8778yyi said:I disagree modern technology and lack of socialising cause it,

what does that mean ?
I meant it isn't a modern disease
It was discovered in the 1950s
