Peat brings a new way of understanding the human beins, ourselves.
I would like to interprete how I feel through this understanding.
This is my first goal, before deciding and following any advice, or doing any test or taking any supplement etc.
You might share this passion of understanding, and most of you will understand and surely have become as myself "good specialists" after reading and more reading on Internet!
So I have written a sort of story, with my understanding and dietetic tries....
What of my guess do you suppose true, and what do you think is not, through what I did not see?
We are all usually betterat seeing at others stuff than ours!!
I have a guess that I am hypothyroid + lack of progesterone.
BUT I do not have all the symptoms and might be compensing (producing cortisol?) as I look more hyper than hypo... I am slim and active for example. I almost always sleep well. My 2 motors for energy are
1) projects that bring enthousiam
2) Being late so that I have to hurry up. Then I can forget I am tired.
I never took any major medication in my life.
As I obviously have inflammations, my real fear is to have something in the range of auto-immunity problem.
The clear symptoms that I have now:
- I have low temperature (Exercising is efficient to warm me up), low pulse. I tend to have low blood pressure.
- I lost outer eyebrows, some legs’ hairs, and also my hair is thinner than before.
Then pre-menaupause:
- I had some hot flashes in January, and took essential oil of salvia sclarea. How can it work? This is estrogen-like! Now I don’t want it!
I have very irregular periods now, after a life of quite regular ones. Very little syndroms, some occasional belly aches the 1st day, and breast tension the days before, but not always. And I think I am sterile.
Other suffering and annoyances I have:
- I usually have to pee during the night. It seems better since I eat sugar.
- I have headaches regularly, cervicals on the left side and going up to the eyes, and often with nausea. I think I can link it to not drink enough and stress.
- What bothers me most are physical pains in muscles and tendons. I feel "rusted" when I get up even from my chair, Achille tendons ache and then it goes away with warming. I have elbow tendinitis, shoulders are not so great either, and some pains here and there. I had been diagnosed with a beginning of fatigue and fibromyalgia. I said no to it, went away, and stress went away, and pain as well! But stress comes back one day, and the rest.
- I tend to have swollen eyes in the morning and to be unable to eat before drinking a lot. Even an orange make my throat and gums swell! I had something more as a child: Any scratch on the skin will appear white and then red and stand out so that I could even write on myself with a nail! I guess that is what is called dermographism.
In the past, to give more clues...
Digestion has always been a problem. I am 15 years off gluten now, and gradually saw that I should go off carbs as well.
My diet became some sort of paleo / GAPS.
On the other hand, the paradoxe is that I am as they say “never ill”. My immunity seems high. I don’t know how I can escape that well all viruses when so many people around have diarrhea or flue. My almost only cause of accelerated transit is carb eating (well, and a logical abuse of honey those days when re-introducing it!!).
I was born at 8 months just when my mother stopped working in a lab with solvents like ethanol. Always thought it was the cause of some problems....
As far as I can remember I had bad digestion.
My body temperature was not the normal 37ºc but 36ºc or even a little under when I was younger. My heart beats were 60, and I went down to 45 with sport. About aspirine, when given it during fever, I was getting highly nervous, so never took it anymore since early childhood.
I was warned about a weak liver and pancreas when I was 10-11. I had sugar in urine at age 18, and tests showed that my glucose levels were too slow to go down. They just told me to avoid sugar if I wanted to avoid diabetis...
My journey into dietetics had started!
I avoided sugar but ate carbs. I “knew” that sunflower was the best oil... etc. Any time I ate sugar, I had a big red pimple on the chin or nose... So, what, it really looked as a “bad guy”! I tried fructose products (powdered fructose and fructose marmelade), but it seems the cause of tooth decay (confirmed by another person who had the same result).
Honey always tends to give me gases, why?
Going off gluten was a success... for a few years.
Then I saw that I needed to go further. Off carbohydrates (cereals and potatoes) is great, but as I thought I could not eat sugar, I went high fat as a logic. I am lucky to live in a place with fruits and bananas, which suit me well.
Honestly, that was better thanks to a healthy diet until I got some stress those last 2 years. It seemed as if I had lost the benefits of the 2 previous years.
The begining of the high fat diet last year was super great, thanks to the mix of banana, avocado, egg yolk, olive oil and cocoa, plus coconut oil and ghee.
I grow good veggies and bought beef and chicken, though not of the best quality here. I could get an occasional ox-tail, or bones and made bone-broth.
I had learned about the over-eating of omega 6, so tried to use omega 3 seeds more, especially daily chia, and no omega 6 in form of oil, only the whole seed. I suppose that some excess omega and the lack of sugar were the dietetic mistakes I did.
I went worse this winter because of the relative lack of fruits, ripe bananas and eggs. I also tried twice to re-introduce gluten-free cereals like rice and buckwheat, which was a failure. I was feeling electric in my body, almost shaky. As I am not fond of sardins and other fat fish, I was going to buy fermented cod liver oil, which led me to Ray Peat and the only text against fish oil. Thanks God for my ever curious nature and love of controversy!
Now the changes in my diet:
- I eat more fruits (papayas are available now!),
- drink coffee, still without sugar (I live in a sub-tropical place with abundant fruits, and I really prefer black coffee)
- suppressed pufa seeds like chia, almonds, sunflower, pumpkin...
- increase my intake of dairies (but my nose is becoming more runny, and a nostril is stuck every morning, so what?)
- reduced even the good fats.
Any comment about my story welcome, such as sharing what you have equal to me, or with what differences etc.
Also, as my readings are new, what you know Peat says and can explain how I could be like this.
As they diagnosed me with chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia a few years ago, I felt quite victorious and happy, I am on the right track, and want to feel better because some pains are coming back. I guess the premenaupause is not helping me.... Thanks for helping me understand better and take the best path!
