I cannot find any clear guidance on this:

Is tryptophan - needed - to make melatonin (via serotonin)?

I ask because there is a lot of talk here about using BCAAs and gelatin (both lacking tryptophan) to reduce serotonin, which is made from tryptophan.
This would also be so as to reduce the use of "regular" protein sources like meat and milk, which are high in tryptophan.

Can that lowered serotonin production then hurt melatonin production?
