It's funny you ask which I think is more evil. Because as Americans we should hold our own government accountable. I cannot speak on behalf of the Russians or the Russian government. However, we can compare a short amount of time in which historical events have taken place. How many countries has Russia overthrown since 2000 ? I know of none but I do know of the U.S overthrow of Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Egypt, Ukraine, and now trying in Syria. To answer the question objectively one has to put their anti-Russian rhetoric aside. Because thats what it is in the end. We first hated Russia because they were communist, now, what is our excuse ? Because their Russian ? Brzezinski is bragging that he wants to break up Russia into 68 different countries. Unless you have evidence that Russia is a threat to the U.S, then everything else is just propaganda.
jag, such is right--we're getting off-track (from the thread) with this facet of the discussion.
Overall, I have the feeling that we agree on a lot of things political--
how we look at the OP's article, for one thing!
I won't try--here at least--to persuade you to my views about the U.S. compared to Russia.
I will just say,
that as an American having grown up in the counter-culture of the '70's
I am well disposed to look with skepticism at the U.S.
So I am in tune with you when you say that we should hold America accountable.
However, if our focus gets stuck on the U.S.
and we don't also apply a critical and skeptical view of other countries,
then that mono-focus can also result in a kind of hollow rhetoric, propaganda, dogma.
I suggest we now return to our regularly scheduled programming,
the very interesting subject begun by haidut,
Poverty Causes Depression By Increasing Serotonin Activity!
I've not been to the Dakotas but I've literally been everywhere else you list. To the extent people suffer in modern America it is a spiritual and social problem, not one of material poverty. Nobody is short on dollars to eat and shelter adequately.
West Virginia is actually a pretty amazing place and I suggest people visit. Many people are dirt poor, a lot of them like drugs (for fun, like me), and by and large they have their ***t together and are fun people. There's an amazingly quality of life out in those woods; they're fighters and will be there ruling that land for a thousand years. A rafting trip down the New River is a great idea. I suggest anyone do it.
In my humble opinion. This topic is relevant to the OP. is connect with the political spectrum. But I do understand your point. I would also like to add that this topic was brought up precisely when "bob" unapologetically made the comment that Ray Peat was a soviet spy. For whatever reason, it's ironical that someone who joins the Ray Peat Forum, apparently to follow his recommendations and others that do. Would believe that the person was a soviet spy and continue to pursue advice from the accused. I wouldn't be surprise if he purposely joined this forum to be disruptive and cause problems for whatever reason.
Bobbybob could be a spy for the CIA trying to discredit Peat.........
Seriously though is there any evidence for Peat being a soviet spy, what spying was he doing exactly? His work doesn't exactly suggest benefits for the soviets.
Is progest E really progesterone or a mind altering substance that makes you think anti America thoughts????
Using similar logic we could just say that Haidut could be ex KGB because he is from Europe originally, what's in those supplements really? I find my stream of conciousness to be very Russian these days,mmmm........
I am assuming that people are referring to his book mind and tissue. Which he references a lot of marxist theory which help create the foundation soviet science even though he never gave any hint that he himself was political in that way. I think its mostly anti-communism rhetoric. If you aren't saying something bad about the soviet union then you are a communist spy. That was the whole argument during the purges in 1947 and the era Mccarthyism. I just think it's ironical that one believes such things about Ray Peat while taking his nutritional and health advice. Suspicious.
The central banking system, fractional reserve, interest rate setting systems(rigging) is categorically communist. The USA are communists and were communists during the soviets time ,so is any part of the world that has the above systems in place.
It's hilarious that people in western countries speak of communism in the manner they do, they are starting to see now the illusion of democracy, this year in particular will be interesting to watch as the USA start freezes on credit and limiting cash withdrawals.
How very relevant you guys
oh yeah, definitely, that's why I see black inmigrants fleeing away from those African countries in masse. And I yet have to find a single american citizen emigrating for economic reasons. Yeah.lol, the conditions in baltimore are literally worse than the poorest of countries in Africa

No. The study talks about "socio economic status", which is basically code for living in socially dysfunctional families and neighborhoods. It's not about material poverty anywhere in America.
What??? I can't believe you are saying this. Look on every first world country who are the ones doing the worst jobs : inmmigrants. Wether Indian, African, Chinese, Latin America... Please, don't say they're qualified technicians because they are not. I've only been to USA once and it was NY so I don't have a clue of what goes on in the rest of the country but I can tell you one thing : I've never, ever, seen in my whole life (and I teaveled to many countries) a single US citizen who had emigrated in the same situation as those I mentioned before. There are many US expats around the world but because they want to explore or have another lifesryle, but no way they are fleeing for poverty reasons. It must make you rethink about "poverty" in US. I normally disagree with bobbybobb but in this case I think he has nailed it. The problem is not economical. It's "spiritual" or cultural whatever you want to call it.Most people who emigrate are the educated of the society, not the poorest. When their is mass migration it's mostly due to conflict not necessarily because of poverty. After the soviet union collapse and "shock therapy" was implemented, Russia lost about 2 million of it's population. Putin would say that Russia lost more people in the privatization then in WW2. Latvia lost about 20 percent of it's population recently in it's attempted to neo-liberalize. Which was mostly educated and technicians. Most of the time the low income stay where they are. But that still doesn't disprove his point.
Yes. I agree. There's no poverty in US if you judge it in a pure materialistic way. There's percieved poverty in comparison with wealthy citizens. Anyone who feels poor in a first world country should travel a couple of weeks to the nearest 3rd world country. It works like a cyproheptadine shot. Will lower your serotonin for a few months.Perceived poverty causes psychological stress similar to acute poverty. If everyone is poor, no one is poor, so to speak (as long as basic needs are met). Why Zebras Don't Get Ulcers by Robert Sapolsky is a good read on the health effects of socioeconomic stress.
I know what you mean though that there are relatively few people in the US who starve to death from having zero food to eat for weeks on end. (Instead, some middle class Americans volunteer to starve to death slowly by listening to popular "financial advisors" who advocate capping the family grocery budget at $25 per week...but that's another issue...)
Such I don't know which leader do they have in India. Have you traveled there ? You'll see with your own eyes. It's not the first world problem of "oh my god I don't have medical insurance I'll have to go to medicare". No, no. It's about they don't have the minimum indispensable health equipment like a ******* clean syringe to shoot some antibiotic. Or even worst : soap to clean their hands. THAT is poverty. And that happens in India which has nuclear and spatial program, imagin in Eritrea or Somalia. Not living in a suburb in US and eating pizzahut every day.Yeah and ask them what job they had before moving and before [insert leader here] was conveniently dethroned; I guarantee you it was better and they probably have degrees too
