so it's been a week since I posted and I have been to the beauty angel red light therapy four times. I think I'm an addict. but exerting will power I'm taking the day off. their website says every forty eight hour s. the website says twenty minutes is optimal and my salon offers twelve minute sessions. I have resisted the upsell of another year for forty percent off. twenty fours hours later I still have a heighten sense of my skin sort of tingles . I don't know if it's good or bad but it is pleasant. According to their website my skin is thickening and smoothing. fired up metabolism and all that.

Just chiming in here from the UK. Has the consensus found that these are one of the best options for those in the UK?

(I have a 150w infrared light but I don't think that's very powerful)

I live in Europe and use it right now. It's quite powerful. I'm a bit worried about the high wattage though, I think I need a special wiring or holder but haven't found one. I only use it for one minute or so and then turn off the light because I'm scared it will explode or something...

The guy in the shop told me for a 250W lamp I need a ceramic socket. Plastic will melt. But wouldn't damage more than that. For what it's worth. Going to get one today.

from Using Sunlight to Sustain Life

by Raymond Peat, Ph.D., Ray Peat’s Newsletter — from:
Townsend Letter for Doctors & Patients, June 1996
, Page 83 – 85

Q: How much sunlight do we need a day for general health?

[RP]: If artificial light is bright enough, it is as effective as
sunlight at stopping the stress reaction, but people seldom use
lights that are bright enough. Generally, people and animals are
healthier when days are longer than 12 hours, that is, after March
21 and before September 20. When days are shorter than 12 hours,
artificial lights should be used from sunset until bedtime, but the
greatest brightness probably doesn’t have to be continuous.

Wow, that is pretty much spot on. Around the end of September this year I found myself thinking about my 250W bulbs, looking forward to using them again. I hadn't used them all summer, and even though it was not perceptibly colder they suddenly became very desirable again.

well I put in the ceramic one and it works fine with a 275w IR Bulb. No meltdown or anything. It is very hot, bright and white with just a hint of yellow if you look into it for a second.

Just going to post up my recent purchases. No real experience yet as I only got them today and yesterday.

I bought a 150W reptile red light (For heat and night time use). It's pretty bright, and pretty hot. http://www.internetreptile.com/habistat ... _4880.aspx

I also ordered a self-ballasted UVB light which I am using as a room light as we are now coming into winter here. It kicks out a serious amount of light and I'm hoping the incidental UVB from it will help with D3. I'm not trying to tan with it or anything, though. :d http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004DWXXQE/r ... uctDetails

Here is the spectrum from the box. Like I say, it's seriously powerful. If you buy one, don't look into it from close up or anything equally as stupid.

I am planning to build a snuggle cubby with 250w bulbs heating it. 3 bulbs running for an hour a day will cost around £3.60 per month. I spent an hour reading in front of a 250w bulb today and actually went a little red (kind of like if you spend too long in a hot shower) but it feels so amazing. It's like sunbathing, except no burns, no sticky creams and no flights to warmer climates.

I just need another clamp to get full body coverage while I sit nekkid, eating my salted cheese and liver, and drinking coffee with gelatin made from chicken feet...then ultimate metabolic power shall be mine O_O

Good or bad?

What are your aims? I don't understand German but it looks like a daylight lamp for SAD. I went with red for the Peat reasons, and the UVB lamp for D3 without pills and the fact it is fantastically bright.

Very interesting. Since you'll be using UVB lights, are you going to measure what effects they have on your vitamin D level?

I don't know if this concern of mine is justified, but I would be a little reluctant to use something with just UVB and no UVA at all. There are papers that talk about UVA also creating vitamin-like substances, and I think in nature we always get UVA and UVB together.

I feel I'm going to just use your research and experiment with those exact same products at some point.

Peater, do you have thoughts on this product? Link

The fourth image of the product shows the spectrum. It looks like it has a lot of red, and apparently it also already has UV.

It provides UVA as well, and the skin Vit D mechanism is self-regulating so AKAIK it should all be safe

How are you finding the bulb? Would a cheaper UV (100W) be sufficient as I can't justify £40 on the on you bought!

Nstocks, good to see you! Zach from MDA forums. :)

Hey im sure its been brought up but has anyone tried or talked about high pressure sodium bulbs? They arent super high on the red spectrum but have virtually no blue.

I have a few heat bulbs and incandescents. It's fairly easy to get 250W heat bulbs (and more W, too), and to get their bulb holders (can buy it already wired).

However, I find it tricky to find a good bulb holder. A good bulb holder in my opinion would be those halogen flood lights fixed on a vertical metalic bar, but you'd have to make your own for other bulbs.

It's like turning on the sun. I love it :D 100W would light up a room just fine. I got it to help with the gloomy days we get in winter as well.

Hello again everyone. After taking three months off I've bought a ten month membership for this version of light therapy. http://www.beauty-angel.eu/en/treatments/vibra_shape/ When I tried it earlier in the year it made me feel good and several friends announced i had lost weight or somehow gotten younger looking. It is a challenge having to go some place during their business hours rather that at leisure at home. But it is only a 12 minute treatment.

Sorry to bring this back to life, but I have purchased a set of three heat lamps (250 Watt 130 Volt) after doing some research. I'm wondering how long to expose myself to them each day.
