“However, other humans studies with severe chronic conditions (e.g. multiple sclerosis) have demonstrated that 2-4 tablets of aspirin lower mortality in those patients too, and there is also a yeast study showing that the human-equivalent dose (HED) of about 1g aspirin daily increased maximum lifespan by 400%! So, there does seem to be a dose-dependent benefit for aspirin dosage and for most people the benefits for overall health and lifespan probably continue to increase up to 2-3 tablets (325mg each) daily. For those who are prone to bleeding or concerned about aspirin's pro-bleeding effects, taking 1mg vitamin K2 (MK-4) or 100mcg MK-7 for every tablet of aspirin taken daily should negate most of those bleeding risks (which are overblown by Big Pharma to start with).”

“….some research shows that it may help men with mild to moderate erectile dysfunction. Its libido-boosting powers come from the amino acid citrulline, which is concentrated in the rind.

One studyTrusted Source showed that taking L-citrulline supplements can improve erections without many of the potential side effects associated with Viagra.”

“The Best Calcium Supplement Is None

It’s important to protect your bone strength and guard against fractures as you age, but taking a supplement isn’t the best way to do that, says Erin Michos, MD, MHS , associate director of preventive cardiology for theCiccarone Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease . “A nutrient in pill form is not processed in the body the same way as it is when ingested from a food source. Furthermore, people believe that the proof that calcium supplements fortify bones is more robust than it really is,” she says. “The truth is, the research is inconclusive. But there is a growing body of evidence that suggests no health benefit, or even worse, that calcium supplements may be harmful.”

Multiple studies have found that there’s little to no benefit to taking calcium supplements for the prevention of hip fractures. On the other hand, recent studies have linked calcium supplements with an increased risk of colon polyps (small growths in the large intestine that can become cancerous) and kidney stones, which are hard masses usually formed in the kidneys from an accumulation of calcium and other substances. Additionally, a 2016 study by Michos and her colleagues suggested that calcium supplements may increase the risk of calcium buildup in the heart’s arteries.

“I’m very concerned about the potential for calcium supplements to contribute to heart attacks and heart disease,” says Michos. “The body can’t process more than 500 milligrams of calcium at a time. If you take a supplement with more than that, your body has to do something with the excess. It’s possible that higher calcium levels in the blood could trigger blood clots or that calcium could be deposited along artery walls, which would contribute to the narrowing of blood vessels.””

“The UL for magnesium is 350 milligrams from supplements only. High-dose supplements can lead to diarrhea, nausea, and cramping in some people. Extra magnesium from food is safe because the kidneys will eliminate excess amounts in urine.”

At the 129 minute mark of this video, I am stunned to hear good things about nicotine. Nicotine is high in nightshades, especially potatoes, eggplant, and green tomatoes has 10 times more than the red ones….

“D supplements deplete Copper. Aside from depleting Vitamin A, which you NEED to ACTIVATE Copper too, Vitamin D supplementation triggers the synthesis of metallothionein, a protein that binds up copper in the body in a MAJOR way. Without Copper, you can't make ENERGY OR manage iron.”

💥D supplements deplete Magnesium. Magnesium is needed in almost EVERY single step of Vitamin D synthesis AND conversion from storage to active. We’re already magnesium-deficient as a society and taking Vitamin D supplements exacerbates this.
▪️
💥D supplements deplete Potassium. We’ve known this for almost 60 years!!! Vitamin D supplementation depletes our cells of Potassium in our kidneys and potentially other organs. When Potassium leaves our cells, it leaves them more vulnerable to an increase in Calcium and Iron in the cells...where they SHOULD NOT be (hello kidney stones!).”

“For example, whey protein contains much more tryptophan than whole milk or cheese does, and would tend to suppress the thyroid and activate the whole serotonin-stress system. Whey might be good for fattening pigs, but its acceptance in the health food industry as a powdered protein supplement is just another example of the harmful effects of serotonin mythology.”-Ray Peat, PhD

Sarah: You've mentioned that baking soda added to spinach and chard helps to block oxalic acid and to release the minerals from the cellulose fibers ?

Peat: Yes. It happens that baking soda has some of the same benefits that niacinamide has; it helps your body to excrete phosphate more easily. And anything that helps your body make carbon dioxide helps to excrete phosphate. And salt and calcium help to stimulate the production of carbon dioxide. So, foods that are high in calcium and moderate in sodium will help to get rid of any excess phosphate.

“Some of the current publicity that is used to promote the fact that melatonin is used to make you go to sleep, it happens to be also a thing that goes up during hibernation, and its function is to lower the body temperature, and remember the hospitalized patients -- the ones who had the lowest temperatures were the least likely to survive, because as the thyroid goes down and your body temperature falls, you lose a lot of your immune functions and tissue repair capacity. So lowering your body temperature does make you hibernate and it does make you sleep, but you don't want to use something out of context to force that.

The studies that have been used to advocate melatonin's possibly anti-aging effect were done on mice and rats, and it turns out that they are very opposite to human beings and pigs, because they work at night in general and sleep in the daytime, and so melatonin for them has exactly the opposite meaning that it does for people and pigs. And for example, in humans and rats, melatonin raises prolactin, but in humans, prolactin knocks out progesterone production and causes infertility and stress and osteoperosis for example.” -Ray Peat

“Clearly, calcium in the wrong places – a problem that could be exacerbated by calcium supplementation – is a major health risk.

What causes calcium to go in the wrong places? Deficiencies of vitamin D and vitamin K2 are common reasons. Deficiencies of both are widespread. Vitamin K2 deficiency is a known cause of vascular calcification.

A few years ago, a group of New Zealand researchers conducted a randomized clinical trial that found that over five years, older women taking calcium supplements doubled their risk of heart attack compared to women taking a placebo. [4]

Now, the same group has conducted a systematic review of calcium supplementation studies which confirms the link between calcium supplementation and heart attacks. Dr. Mark Bolland of the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and colleagues report that calcium supplementation increases the risk of heart attack by 31%, the risk of stroke by 20% and the risk of death by 9%. [5]”

“Most goiters now are from estrogen-like effects, but they used to be from iodine deficiency. Chronic excess iodine tends to cause thyroiditis, regardless of the gland’s size. The amounts used by Abraham and Flechas are much larger than this — very toxic doses, enough to cause severe thyroid problems.” -Ray Peat

“Guy Abraham and some of his followers claim that an iodine deficiency can be shown by the quick disappearance of a spot of iodine painted on the skin. The skin test of iodine deficiency is completely unscientific. Iodine is converted to colorless iodide by reductants, including vitamin C, glutathione, and thiosulphate. “G. Abraham’s Iodine Test Kit contains iodine overdose pills. The test is completely irrational. It implies that the body should be saturated with iodine.” -Ray Peat

“It’s easy to recognize a chronic iodine deficiency, because it causes the thyroid gland to enlarge. Goiters can be caused in various ways, for example by being exposed to various goitrogens, including excess iodine, or by excessive estrogen and deficient progesterone, as well as by an iodine deficiency. “However, a chronic excess of iodine is harder to recognize, because it can produce a variety of degenerative changes. Measurement of the average daily iodine intake or excretion in the urine would be needed to confirm an excess. High iodine intake can suppress TSH, and since high TSH is pro-inflammatory, the iodine can have some protective anti-inflammatory actions, but in the long run, the thyroid suppression becomes a problem.” -Ray Peat
