Wow, yes we do! Genetics are funny…..my sister is almost the carbon copy of my grandfather’s mother on my father’s side. ( had to think about that lol) It’s almost eerie. They look identical. My father had black hair. Now it’s white. My mother has blond. I have blond. My sister has red. Kinda strange how certain things are passed down. I do think certain ethnicities do better with more carbs, like fruit, starches than other ethnicities.

If you lived in a warm climate as did your ancestors, you wouldn’t be eating heavy meals all the time. More fruit, and carbs, that sort of thing.

Oh, how interesting. Yes, it really is strange how certain traits are passed down.

Oh this isn’t good…,

“The thing is I tried being a vegan high carber (811 style)
for only 4 months.

The shocking thing happened to me only 2 months in, my
testicles shrunk by around 50%, massive testosterone
decrease??? Not right nutrients to produce sperm???
Sexdrive also dropped dramatically, I’m 30 years old and was
in excellent health before I started and was eating pretty
low carb paleo.

Now I’ve heard of many stories of sexdrive dropping but I
haven’t heard really any story out there about testicles
shrinking so not sure what to think of this.
Also this happened so fast (2 months vegan, I quit vegan
after 4 monts), I transisioned into vegan from very high fat
low carb in just 2 weeks, maybe it was too agressive for the
body?”

Sounds about right for 811. That’s the version of plant-based I was following when my spine collapsed. Wretched diet.

Just that phrase ”spine collapsed” is cringeworthy. I don’t know how you managed to get through that. Glad you are back and thriving.

Yeah like sweet teriyaki tender meat. I make this Greek lamb one too, sorry UphillEndeavors 😋
Nothing better than Lamb loin chops. Or Lamb kebabs. Lamb with mint jelly. I don’t often have lamb with mint jelly, but I love it. A Brazillian steak house is sounding pretty nice for dinner tomorrow 😁

Ha! Ha! Ha! Glad to have you on our meaty side! Oh lamb chops with mint jelly is so divine! Here are a couple I made that are spins on the mint jelly lamb combo.

This 1000%. That’s exactly what I asked myself when my spine collapsed and I was faced with the decision of giving up what I had believed in for so long. I was in so much pain but at the same time so confused because 100% plant-based is promoted as “healthy for all stages of life” and even after fracturing, it took a lot of scientific evidence to convince me to start having animal foods again.

I may have looked young on the outside, but my body on the inside was ancient. I can’t even say I had the bones of a 90 year old because my doctors and back specialists had never seen such an advanced case of osteoporosis before. Within a split second of lifting half a watermelon, half my spine had fractured and collapsed. I went from climbing mountains like these every weekend:

to completely crippled and having to relearn how to walk. I spent most of my days falling to the floor, often left sitting in a puddle of my own urine because I couldn’t make it to the bathroom. It was a truly humbling experience wearing diapers as a 30 year old. Veganism had me looking younger all right. It left me almost hairless, short, in diapers soiling myself, and unable to walk.

Within months of reintroducing animal foods, I had regained the muscle that had atrophied while vegan (examples below) and within a year, my bone density had increased by 50%. I’m still at risk of paralyzation if I were to fracture again because of how extensive the damage to my spine was, but I’ve come such a long way in my healing that I’m currently training to climb again.

Mine is obviously an extreme case and not every vegan ends up like me, but I suppose my point with this post is that looks can be deceiving. We don’t always know what’s lurking under the surface. You may have some wrinkles, age spots, grey hair and an extra layer of fat, but can you lift half a watermelon without your spine collapsing or make it to the bathroom without soiling yourself?

So how much is the sun causing damage than the PUFA’s in the skin?
I think it might be the combination of the two, given the instability of the PUFA it would seem quite plausible that combining PUFA with ultraviolet radiation would have an unregulated effect on their free radical nature.

. She used to chuckle when recalling how she and her siblings ate meals of nothing but mashed potatoes because she found it so odd.
This is interesting in that Dr Peat has mentioned that potatoes have almost a perfect protein composition, and is completely bioavailable.
I would be curious if the short stature may have a connection to the levels of dairy and butter (since it was a luxury) that Dr Peat recommends being added into the mashed potatoes?

What you have said here has been my thinking, but aside from that, the sun does have some radiation that would cause damage in itself. I have settled on avoiding PUFA’s and getting before noon sun. I don’t feel altogether avoidance of the sun is optimal. I was an avid sun baker my whole life until finding Peat 6+ years ago, and though that hasn’t served my skin well, I can see how some of it has repaired itself, giving and avoiding things. I need the sun for my mental and physical health.

My thoughts exactly, sunlight does come with some radiation, I feel that the PUFA probably magnifies this negative aspect, it is plausible and possible that PUFA could be the key mitigating factor leading to melanoma.

I am with you, sure that the PUFA’s in our skin reacting to the sun is a big cause of skin cancer. Also the chemicals in our clothes, bedding, furniture and cars are another cause. In my first year of eliminating PUFA’s from my diet, the brown liver spots on my arms disappeared as well as a lot of different spots on my back, and I was still spending plenty of time in the sun without sunscreen. I am certain too that the sunscreens cause skin cancer too, and maybe even internal cancers as well.

Thank you. :) I think it was mainly my desire to live being greater than my need to die, and I had just enough bats in my belfry to believe I would overcome the injury. lol I think there has to be a level of crazy to do what seems impossible.

Going by my experience, the lack of milk in the potatoes could have been a factor, sure. She and her sisters averaged between 5’ and 5’2” and her brother was around 5’5”. They all went on to have taller children—daughters averaging 5’8”+ and sons averaging 6’+. My brother is 6’4” and given my rate of growth prior to going plant-based, doctors expected me to be around 5’8”.

Chemical sunscreens yes. But zinc oxide is safe. Dr. Peat confirmed. And i see no issue with using it when you can enjoy the benefits of the sun by not wearing sunglasses and no sunscreen is 100 percent anyway. Why age the skin when there is a safe way to protect it? Despite all i went through, i have always protected my skin from the sun and it has very much paid off and I am still basically in superb health other than the chemical sensitivity which i am realizing many have been set off by the estrogen poisoning and am not confident in solving.

I want the vitamin D, so blocking the sun on my skin or even washing my skin afterwards will hinder vitamin D.

Depending upon skin tone, optimal amount of vitamin D can be obtained in as little as 5 minutes total body exposure mid-day for very fair people like me. darker skinned is more difficult and may need supplementation in the winter especially. for me, ill expose other parts of my body without protection for the five minutes; but never my face or neck which don't cover much surface area anyway. it really is possible to have your vitamin D cake and eat it too! I seek to empower women in all ways- i think finding optimal health, beauty and anti-aging balance is very empowering and see it in women I have helped over the years. why not have it all is my motto.

I am pretty happy with where I am at too. I really could not bear the thought of having to put on zinc oxide everytime I go outside. That is just too much for me, but so is getting my nails done and putting on makeup, so to each his own.,

And thats what matters- if you are happy and empowered you are great. We all do what works for us. i totally agree on the nails ( cant due to chemical anyway) and makeup which i only use occasionally now. but yeah, after 50 years of diligent skin care and protection, Im ok taking the extra couple minutes to slap on a little zinc oxide on my face and neck and then go out and bask in the beautiful Ozark sunshine- as a matter of fact- getting ready to do that very soon!!! Enjoy!!!!☀️☀️☀️☀️
